Adorable One-Shoulder Toddler Sundress

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Welcome spring!!  Though I never put my sandals away, it has been so warm that I decided to make this amazingly adorable sundress and break out Lillian's sandals. Oh wait, she's barefoot. Same difference.

Adorable, no?

I used Prudent Baby's One-Shoulder-Dress tutorial (found here), to craft the cutest sundress, ever. EVER!  It's so cute, simple to make, easy on fabric, and can grow with the child into a tunic and shirt after it's too risque for a dress. This was my first attempt, and was named the "lets see how awful this turns out" dress, and my second attempt in a different fabric was going to be Lilly's Easter dress. I'm not a huge fan of those overly-fluffy-$40-I-can-wear-this-only-for-Easter type dresses, and if I'm spending over $30, it had better be able to be worn at least 30 times. Maybe 40 times.

The fabric I chose for the first go was a quilters cotton I found for 50% off, and I got a yard and a quarter to be on the safe side. The instructions are super easy, and the only thing I had problems with, were getting my angles to match up with the measurements. But once I got it, it was smooth sailing. Here are a few photos of Lillian "frinkling" grass all over and admiring the flowers!
