Perfect Projects for Spring!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

It's official!! Spring. It's here. I have one crocus that's bloomed in our front yard, and our tulips, daffodils, mums, orchids and tiger lilies are sprouting. Even the rose bush has new growth. I can't wait for some less-crisp air, though Lillian and I have been spending our afternoons lately in the back yard where there's full sun for the better part of the day. Patiently waiting for those mid-50's!

With the arrival of spring, I've made a boatload of things...

Fabric Covered Magnet Board

Thursday, March 7, 2013

I've been so excited to share this project with you all! Lilly has been turning out a boatload of artwork, and we were running out of places to display the favorite pieces. There's only so much room on the fridge. We came up with this...

A fabric covered magnet board for her bedroom!  I am so in love with how it came out, and so is Lilly. She's so proud of herself and all her art. Want one? It's pretty easy, especially since you won't have to repeat my painting fail.

I had originally thought about doing a magnetic chalkboard, and decided that would end in disaster because Lilly knows what a chalkboard is and where her chalk is kept. It's all in the living room, where I can watch her not draw on non-approved surfaces. Then I had the fleeting thought of a cork board - which is just stupid because push pins spell disaster. I mentioned that I really wanted just a magnetic board for her to use, and he suggested some sheet metal. Genius.

Bubble Capri Tutorial

Friday, March 1, 2013

With spring just around the corner, I've been making a few things for my Etsy shop, and these Bubble Capri pants are one of them. I just love toddlers in capri pants, and the bubble hem is just an extra touch of cuteness. I've included a tutorial on how to start from scratch and make your own pattern, as well as how to assemble the pants.

Bam!

How stinking adorable, right?!

Lilly's 2nd Birthday Bash!

Sunday, September 2, 2012

We now have a 2 year old child. What the what? A 2 year old! I'm confused as to how on Earth that happened, but it did, and here we are. I found it pretty depressing that she was turning 2, for the simple fact that our not-so-little baby isn't a baby any longer, but instead a human being that talks, gives dirty looks to strangers who invade her personal space, gives a bit of an attitude, gives hugs and kisses, loves her friends (read: sock monkeys and cousins), actually shares and takes care of her toys, poops on my hardwood floors and denies it (potty training), and asks to be tucked in like a burrito at night. How sweet!

The theme for her party and decorations was inspired by a local park/playground that has beautiful equipment for the kids to play on, beautiful setting and scenery, recycled tire wood chips, and a pavilion. That's all wood. RUSTIC WOOD. I drool every time I go there. Once we nailed down the location of the party, I knew instantly I wanted to do a rustic-country vibe party, complete with vintage fabrics I found at Happy Notions, and this invitation I found from Paper+Pip, both on Etsy.

DIY Kid Pajamas

Monday, June 4, 2012

Lillian now has a handful of mix-n-match jammies, and they're so adorable! I made 2 night gowns - one from a pair of eyelet curtains, the other from a thrifted pillowcase, a tank top from one of my old tank tops, a romper from an old tank top, and 2 pairs of lounge pants - one from the eyelet curtains and one from a pair of my old lounge pants. They're all adorable, and she loves them, and they seem very comfy for her to run and play in. I can't wait to find more tank tops to make into these rompers, because she's in love with hers. I found some more fabric and old pj's of mine to make into jammies for her, so I'm absolutely going to make more of the 2 piece sets. So addicting! Here are hers...

This eyelet nightgown was made with a rectangle of fabric about twice the width of her chest/belly, and an elastic top and tie shoulders. Since the edge of the fabric was adorable scallops, I used that as the bottom of the nightgown. This is one of my favorites and only took about 20 minutes. Perfect for a nap time crafting project.

Toddler Tea Towel Apron

Monday, May 14, 2012

This apron is so cute, and she loves the pocket. My kid loves her pockets. Not bad, for a thrifted tea towel! She's making pancakes here, workin' that apron and the camera.

DIY Toddler Bubble Romper

Monday, April 16, 2012

Today's Make It Monday brings a bubble romper, which is a complete nap time craft! I'll show you how to make this one. Here are a few modeling photos of Lilly in this adorable number...

 Isn't it adorable!?

Owl Mobile & Matching Pillow

Monday, March 26, 2012

My sister-in-law Sharon had a girlfriends' baby shower this weekend, and she was going with a modern owl themed nursery. What better to go with an owl themed nursery, than an owl mobile! See more after the jumpy-jump...
How cute am I, really.

Adorable One-Shoulder Toddler Sundress

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Welcome spring!!  Though I never put my sandals away, it has been so warm that I decided to make this amazingly adorable sundress and break out Lillian's sandals. Oh wait, she's barefoot. Same difference.

Adorable, no?
