New Mom Comfort Gift Bag

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

As I'm sure you know, a friend added a new lil' man to their household last week! I love little babies; he's totally gorgeous, wrinkly and incredibly snuggly. I put together this gift bag for our visit to see them, which includes soothing necessities, beauty necessities  and something to dull leftover pain.  Not to mention, an extra something cute for the baby.

Let's dissect this bag...

The things I found I needed and used the most were some lip balm, lanolin, dry shampoo and pain relievers.

I am a lip balm person anyway, I found I needed tons of it while I was nursing, so I stocked up. These little EOS eggies are my new favorite! And they're so cute. I went with the mint for a cooling and relaxing effect. I was nursing and had a less-than-stellar experience, but with some lanolin, I wasn't entirely doomed. I think any kind of pain relief post-childbirth-of-any-kind is self explanatory... am I right? I had a c-section, so I had a nice stock of all kinds of OTC relief on hand. Dry shampoo (I use this now and Dove is my favorite) because I go to the salon each day for a fresh blow out sometimes have no time to shower or make an effort. Especially after a new baby rolls home; showers, non-greasy hair, looking and feeling good are a hot commodity... dry shampoo totally helps in the interim.

Don't forget how stressed out parents of a new baby can get, whether you have none, one or a baseball team. So she could relax a little bit, I ordered a homemade candle and shea butter lotion from a woman my mom works with. They're my favorite candles and lotions, and they always smell amazing. These aren't in the photos because I had to pick them up on my way to visit my friend, but I went with a crisp berry scented candle and an herbal lavender body lotion. They both smell ahhhhhmazing.

While I was out shopping for these goodies, I ran into this adorable creeper and shorts from Old Navy. I had to have them.

I couldn't help making a pacifier clip with a mustache on it. It had to be done. I'm going to work on a tutorial for these, because they really are easy and adorable, and you can make them in all different ways to fit all kinds of pacifiers. They make perfect little gifts!

What are some of your favorite things to add to a gift bag? I would love more suggestions since I'm due with our second in June... I'll toss them in my own bag!!

  1. This is such a thoughtful idea! I always like to get a new mom a little something after the baby is born. It is nice to think of the mom as well as the baby! Great idea.

    1. Thanks for stopping in Shannah! I love to give a little something to the mom, who I feel like everyone kindof ignores because of the new, cute, tiny, helpless, wrinkly baby! I'm glad I'm not alone haha

  2. What a fun little kit - luxuries like clean hair and soft lips help every mom get out of the "survival mode" or at least deal with it a little better! Love the clip!

  3. Great idea! I would add food, and drinks. Or a take out menu for somewhere that delivers to the hospital - especially if it is for deli sandwiches or sushi - things I wanted as soon as possible after the baby was born!
